# Product update: rich text and date-time fields

Components in Croct now support two new attribute types: rich text and date-time.

Marketers can bold a key phrase, add a link, or schedule a campaign deadline right in the content form. Developers no longer need workarounds, like splitting a headline into separate attributes or parsing free-form dates.

Both types are available today in the component editor, alongside plain text, number, boolean, file, and all the others you already use.

## Rich text

Rich text gives editors a text field with a formatting toolbar. They can write content without touching Markdown, and your application receives the result as a plain Markdown string, ready to [render with the library of your choice](https://docs.croct.com/immersion/guides/using-markdown-syntax).

You decide how much freedom editors have. Pick exactly which styling options the toolbar offers:

- **Inline:** bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, link, and image
- **Blocks:** heading, quote, unordered list, ordered list, and code block

A hero headline might allow only bold and italic, while a product description could enable lists and links. Anything outside the allowed set simply isn't available in the editor.

Rich text attributes also support the options you already know from plain text:

- Single line or multiline, for short titles or longer paragraphs
- Minimum and maximum length, up to 300 characters for single-line text and 1,000 for multiline

## Date-time

Date-time attributes give editors a date and time picker instead of a free-text field, so values are always valid. "Next Friday" or "6/15" can't slip into production anymore.

Dates are tricky because the same value can mean different things. Does a sale end at midnight in New York, or at midnight wherever each visitor is? Instead of guessing, you choose one of five formats when creating the attribute:

| Format | Example value | Use it for |
| --------------- | --------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Local date | 2025-06-15 | A calendar day, like a promotion's last day or a release date |
| Local time | 10:15:30 | A time of day, like store hours or a same-day shipping cutoff |
| Local date time | 2025-06-15T10:15:30 | A date and time in the visitor's own time zone, like a Black Friday sale starting at midnight everywhere |
| Zoned date time | 2025-06-15T10:15:30-04:00\[America/New\_York] | A moment tied to a place, like a webinar at 10 AM New York time |
| Instant | 2025-06-15T14:15:30Z | One moment worldwide, like a launch countdown or a flash sale ending everywhere at once |

The picker adapts to the format. Zoned date times start in your workspace's time zone, and instants are always entered in UTC. Every value follows the ISO 8601 standard, so any date library can parse it.

## Get started

To add a new attribute to a component:

1. Open the component in the component editor.
2. Click Add attribute.
3. Select Rich text or Date time.
4. Set the options, such as the allowed styling or the date format, and save.

The new field shows up in the content form of every slot, experience, and experiment that uses the component.

For every property and format, check out the [reference docs](https://docs.croct.com/reference/content/schema/introduction). We'd love to hear what you build with them.
